Claude Duet opened as a waitlist research preview for US Pro and Max users on Oct 21, 2026. Here's what it does, how it uses your limits, and what to watch.
What it is
Claude Duet is a separate app on iOS, Android and claude.ai where Claude works as a proactive agent. It flags what needs your attention, does tasks you ask for, keeps working when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf.
Who can use it
- US Pro and Max subscribers via the waitlist, during the research preview.
- It shares your plan's usage limits with the rest of Claude. Its background checks count against those limits, and big tasks like a financial model use more.
Known limits (from Anthropic)
- It may misread a thread or get urgency wrong.
- Personal errands such as booking tickets are weaker than work tasks.
- It can't show you its browser yet.
How to try it safely
- Join the waitlist from Anthropic's post.
- Start with read-only requests:
What in my inbox this week needs a reply from me, and by when? - Approve each action yourself before it goes ahead, and watch Settings > Usage for a few days.
Why: background work uses your limits even while you're not chatting.
