Perplexity's Oct 19, 2026 update added a Decisions API that returns probabilities instead of prose, Ultrafast speed for Max subscribers in Computer, and role-based connector controls. Here's how to use each.
Decisions API
- It classifies and scores text, JSON and images, and returns probabilities your code can use directly, so there's no prose answer to parse.
- Models: pplx-decider v1.2 in 27B standard or 4B Flash. Use them through the API or download the open weights.
- Up to 128 questions per input. Perplexity suggests checking grouped questions on your own data, and sending one question at a time on Flash by default.
- The API charges only for input tokens. Flash is the cheaper option.
Example use: triaging support tickets. Ask “Is this a refund request? yes/no” and send anything above your threshold to a person. Pick the threshold by testing on 50 tickets you've already labelled.
Ultrafast in Computer
Max subscribers on the web can select Custom → Speed → Ultrafast for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. It uses more credits than Normal or Fast.
Connector controls
Admins can now control which connectors each role can use.
