AI workflows for lawyers: bot drafts, people approve

A workflow is where bots pay off: the bot does the first draft, and the people with the license, the context and the accountability check it.

Brief drafting with a citation gate

  1. Outline arguments yourself.
  2. Ask the bot for a structure and counter-arguments, with no citations.
  3. Do the research in a citator and paste only verified authority.
  4. Have the bot tighten prose around your verified cites.
  5. Pull and read every cited case; Shepardize/KeyCite.
  6. Supervising attorney signs.

New-matter intake

  1. Collect intake in your practice-management system.
  2. Run a conflict check the normal way (never via a public bot).
  3. Use an approved bot to turn intake notes into a matter summary and document checklist.
  4. Attorney reviews and sends the engagement letter.

Make it stick

  1. Write down which tools are approved and for what data.
  2. Keep the bot's draft and the final version, so you can see what reviewers changed.
  3. For a month, mark each draft: correct, minor fix, or wrong. If "wrong" isn't rare, change the prompt or stop using it for that task.
