Use-case playbooks

Product b-roll

  1. Shoot or upload a product photo.
  2. Generate 5-second motion.
  3. Pick the best take.

Storyboard to shots

  1. Write 5 shot descriptions.
  2. Generate each short.
  3. Edit together.

Extend footage

  1. Upload a clip.
  2. Extend by a few seconds.
  3. Check the join.

Troubleshooting

I ran out of credits.

Buy credits (min 1,000; they never expire) or wait for your monthly refill.

Characters change between shots.

Use the same reference image and keep descriptions identical.

The answer cites a page that doesn't say that.

Treat the claim as unverified. Ask it to quote the exact sentence from that page, or say it isn't there. Then open the page yourself.

It forgot my earlier instructions.

Long sessions push early text out of context. Put standing instructions where Runway keeps them (Keep one project per video, save good prompts and seeds, and name clips by shot number.) and start fresh.

It agrees with everything I say.

Ask it to argue the other side and list the strongest evidence against your view, with sources.

Cost control

Gen-4.5 uses 12 credits per second. Standard and Pro credits don’t roll over; Max rolls over one month. Purchased credits never expire (minimum 1,000) (runway.com/pricing, checked Oct 30, 2026).

Monthly credits by plan (625 / 2,250 / 9,500). Gen-4.5 costs 12 credits per second. Standard and Pro don’t roll over (runway.com/pricing).

Prompt library: bad vs good

Bad: help me

Good: Slow push-in on a steaming cup of coffee on a wooden cafe table, morning window light, shallow depth of field, 5 seconds.

Why: situation, task, format and limits.

Bad: research this

Good: Find the 5 most relevant official sources from the last 12 months on [topic]. For each: title, date, link, and one sentence it actually says.

Why: asks for dated, quotable, checkable sources.

Bad: make it better

Good: Rewrite this for a busy customer: max 100 words, one ask, no jargon. Then list what you cut.

Why: a reader, a length and an audit of changes.

Bad: should I do X?

Good: List the 3 strongest reasons for and against X for someone in [situation]. Mark which reasons depend on facts I should check.

Why: balanced, and separates facts from judgement.
